If you have noticed this website down for substantial amounts of time the last few weeks then trust me, you are not alone. Yet again Monday the website went down for about 5 hours due to a hosting company failure. I was using MyDomain to host this site for about a month before the site slowed to a crawl and eventually became completely inaccessible for nearly two weeks. I just moved all the content over to Dot5Hosting instead and even they went down for a good portion of the day Monday GRR. I had more reliability hosting off my little 2.7Ghz server at home with a dynamic IP than I have with PAID WEB HOSTING. Hopefully this new host will have no more troubles… I figured it was about time I got around to providing an update to why this site has been down alot.

Now for your viewing entertainment until my next weather related post, please enjoy one of my latest Flickrs:

Texas summer has arrived, temps will easily reach the upper 90s each day, even reaching the century mark AKA 100 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday. This is responsible for a strong upper level high pressure that will park itself on top of the southern plains for the rest of the week. This will also keep all the severe weather away from the area leaving us with clear to partly cloudy skies. Unfortunately there will still be a hearty moisture feed from the Gulf so this means the upcoming week will be very unpleasant with heat indexes easily reaching or exceeding 105 degrees. Overnight low temps will also be a tad warm with lows in the mid 70s and high humidity.

This week should remain uneventful aside from the heat though. No rain is forecast for the next 7 days, the southern branch of the jet stream will retreat well north of the area taking the severe weather threat with it. I think now I can say we are likely out of severe weather season. Summer can bring a random event or two to the area but they will likely be far between. Summer is the dry season for north Texas, from this point forward rainfall will likely be limited at best, with the next best rainfalls occurring during fall as cold fronts push through the area in late September and October. Again, weather can obviously be very unpredictable but I make the above statements going off historical trends for the area.

If anything changes I will send out updates, but this week looks to be very quiet.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for Collin and Denton counties until 4am. At this time, a cluster of severe storms sits about 115 miles west of Frisco, moving east at about 25mph. These are very large storms which have produced tornadoes, but the environment they are moving into is somewhat complex, so I am not 100% [read more...]

Severe storm risk has increased for today

Updates since my last message I sent out, looks like the forecast for today has been updated and severe storm chances for the area have increased. A low pressure system and associated dry line will push east across north Texas during the evening, colliding with very ample atmospheric instability, creating a risk for severe storms. This is the scene all around the Frisco Bridges area where I live and work, numerous trees down in the area. The tree limb pictured here appears to be about 8 inches in diameter, snapped at the base.
