Don‘t get me started on the IT implications of this new DST stuff that congress put into effect this year. But more weather related, it‘s the dry season now. Personally I tend to notice that while storms are fewer and further in between, the storms we do get tend to be fairly intense.

I remember April 25-26, 2003 was the most intense line of storms I ever remember experiencing and for one of the first times since I was a little kid I was actually somewhat worried about the weather. That night was the only time I ever conciously remember staying away from the windows because of the severity of the wind and hail and lightning. Pictures of that night are in my galleries as well.

Additionally just last year on February 9, most of the Tampa Bay Area received over 9 inches of rain in as many hours and caused severe flash flooding and multiple roof collapses. Again this was a train of storms that dumped severe rainfall over the same localized areas. At the time my job was right in the most intense part and remember that it was extremely difficult to get home as a majority of roads I had driven on during lunch time were now flooded over with more than 1 foot of water.

Generally storms like this do not occur every year, usually theres at least a few years that go by before another extremely intense storm such as these occur but you know me… I hope one happens soon. I will have my camera ready and keep my weather station recording all the action!

The National Weather Service has published its weather statistics for the winter season of 2006-2007. In summary, this past winter season was exactly as predicted, much dryer and much warmer than normal. Details on their findings for Tampa are listed below.

20ft Mast Bent 6 days after mounting.

You be the judge, because a simple 21mph wind cannot bend a 1.25inch diameter steel pole designed to be 20 feet and mount TV Antennas. Considering that it withstood a 33mph gust only a day after being mounted into place without any effects. Look at the angle this thing is at! Hallway motion camera detected [read more...]
