Gallery: Overnight thunderstorms in D/FW

Severe thunderstorms impacted the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex early 10/23/11, bringing high winds and hail. Spotty reports of high winds came in, with separate reports of 70+ mph in both Plano and Rowlett. With the passage of a strong thunderstorm outflow here in Irving, temperatures dropped from 78 F to 64 F in a matter of just 5 minutes.

Gallery: Incredible lightning over the D/FW Metroplex

Scattered thunderstorms which developed along a southward moving cold front produced some of the most photogenic lightning I have ever captured! These storms brought some beneficial rain to the region, but I think the main headline from this event is the intense and quite impressive night time lightning show.

Today I finally had the opportunity to capture some lightning pictures before being chased inside by multiple very close lightning strikes.

Heavy rain impacts around the Metroplex

Now that the heaviest rains are beginning to exist the Metroplex as they move east, I will send a brief update on tonight’s severe weather impacts. Only a few reports of high winds around the area, none of them reporting any damage so far. Several large hail reports in Parker, Tarrant, Denton and Cooke counties. [read more...]

Rainy and stormy day around the metroplex as a stationary front drifts around north Texas.  The rains are likely to continue for a healthy portion of the day as well. Picture below I took out the window at work here, during a heavy thunderstorm.

Strong nighttime storm impacts Pinellas County

A strong cluster of storms developed along a southward moving outflow boundary late Tuesday evening through Pinellas County. These storms collided with a weaker westward moving boundary from earlier storms over the Feather Sound area kicking up gusty winds and very heavy rainfall. Being from Tampa which can generally be considered the lightning capital of the United States, this is nothing new.
